All engines in the Volvo Penta compact range (D1 and D2) are equipped with a 12V unipolar electrical system.
The unipolar electrical system allows the entire engine to be grounded and can be installed when the engine housing, as well as the boat’s hull, are made of an electrically non-conductive material. When the boat is made of a conductive material (such as carbon fiber or aluminum), it is necessary to insulate the engine. This can be done by converting the electrical system to a bipolar one.
